Fished Lake Gaston once again in advance of my club's two-day tournament on April 11th and 12th. Water levels rose and water temps dropped following a few frigid mornings,, several inches of rain, and a significant release of water from Kerr Lake. The heavily stained water moved fish tight to cover, and I found largemouth bass hanging tight against the shallowest dock pilings I could find in the back of creeks and main lake pockets. I caught several on an unweighted, Texas-rigged 4' Yum Dinger in black with blue flake. I never felt the bites. I simply had to watch my line for signs of movement, and I was able to catch a nice limit.

Fishing shallow in a small cove off of Falls Lake. The bass are just cruising the bank, but the bite was slow today. The fish were slurping the topwater baits off the surface instead of exploding out of the water. Caught 5 small bass in the hour I was able to get out, but unfortunately they were all pretty small.

The top water bite has been on fire close to the bank. Every other cast fish are coming up to hit the popping bait. Also had several chain pickerel and largemouth bass follow up a glide bait. Fun few days out on the bank.

Bass seem to still be on the full range from main lake points to mid-creek channel and into the back of creeks. Saw some crappie on bed, with bass nearby. Caught a few bass on laydowns, but more seemed to be in 6-8’ of water along channel swings.

The fish were hitting a senko slowly twitched in the water column and chasing moving baits. Had a great time with an underspin, twitch bait, and wacky worm. This little holding pond has been great for some smaller bass, which are great for fishing with my daughter.

First time on Shearon Harris. Fun lake. Very different than most in NC given abundance of bulrush on shoreline. Had cloudy skies with temps in low 70s and light to no breeze. Water was stained with visibility of 18-24” and temps from 48-54 degrees. Bass seemed to be stacked from the front of creek mouths to maybe half way back. Suspended offshore, mid-column in 8-15 feet of water. All of our bites came on crankbaits.
