Short trip to the small ponds in Round Rock. The fluctuations in weather has made the bite slow. Dropshot with finesse worms fished along the vegetation proved to be effective.

I went out to the lake on Saturday, December 21st with my buddies Iain and Tyler to get in on the winter power plant lake action. It was a mostly sunny day with a slight south wind at about 5 mph, and outside temperatures in the low to mid 50's. The water temperature on the lake ranged from 64-72 degrees, and the water clarity ranged from 1-3 feet of visibility. We spent the day fishing the power plant outflow canal for schooling bass in 15-20 feet of water, using a jerkbait to catch fish roaming on bait only a couple feet under the water's surface. We also went downlake to cooler water and were able to catch several fish targeting submerged grasslines and isolated timber in small pockets with a fluke and a chatterbait. Overall, we caught somewhere between 25-30 bass total, with our best 5 probably going around 12 pounds and a 4.74 pounder being the biggest (pictured with the report). Lake Welsh is fishing really good right now, as we were able to do all of this in just 4 hours of fishing and even caught one at the boat ramp before loading the boat on the trailer to leave for the day. It's hard to beat a good day of winter fishing on a heated lake, y'all get out there and rip some lips!

Finished 9th of 51 in a tournament. All my fish came on a dead sticked weightless Senko in black/blue flake. The Seaguar InvizX was a key as I had a couple of fish wrap me around stumps and the line never let me down. If you are fishing fluor, and not using InvizX you are going to have some brokeoff fish. This stuff is the best I have ever used. Another key was the Shimano DC. Throwing weightless in the wind would have eaten me up in the past, but that DC allows you to throw directly into the wind and never backlash. Best reel ever!

I went out to the lake with my buddy Kevin on Tuesday, November 26th. It was a post-frontal late fall/early winter day, with outside temperatures starting at around 34 degrees in the morning and warming up slightly to about 50 degrees by the mid-afternoon when we left, after a 40 degree temperature drop overnight. The water temperature was right at about 55 to 56 degrees lakewide, and the water clarity ranged from about a foot and a half of visibility on the windier banks, to around 4 feet of visibility in the calmer water, with a slight greyish hue to the water overall. It was sunny outside all day, with a very slight north wind at around 4-8 mph. We tried powerfishing early on, and couldn't get anything going covering water up shallow or on the deeper grass edge, so we eventually moved out into 10-12 feet of water where a creek channel runs through a grass flat and creates a very defined ditch. There, we found a pretty nice sized school of bass, and utilized a drop shot and a neko-rig to pick them off the bottom with our FFS. We caught 12 fish total, with all but 1 of them coming on one of those two baits, and the one fish not caught on a neko or drop shot fell victim to the a 6 inch line through swimbait out in more open water. It was a slower day than most out on South Lake, but we still had a good time catching a dozen or so bass, and our best 5 went right at 11 pounds with our big fish being a 3 pounder that Kevin caught that is pictured with this report. As the winter weather sets in and stabilizes, the bite on south lake should only get better, so get out there and wet a line!

I went out to the lake on Wednesday, November 20th with my buddy Kevin to try and get on some big Bois D'Arc fall bass in the forest. It was bright and sunny all day, with a strong northeast wind at 15 mph and gusting up to 25 mph for the majority of the day until the evening when it eventually completely laid down. The water temperature on the lake was 61 degrees lakewide and the water clarity was at about 1.5 - 2 feet of visibility with a slight green hue to it. We fished from noon to 5 PM, and concentrated our efforts way back in the forest on the west side of the lake, specifically targeting areas where creek channels ran through the timber. We would sit our boat in the channels and then fish all the timber and flooded brush on the edges of the channel in 2-6 feet of water, pitching a jig and texas rig as well as throwing a swim jig and chatterbait. The jig and texas rig got more bites, but the moving baits, especially the swim jig, caught the majority of our bigger fish. We caught 10 fish total, and our best 5 for the day went right at 17 pounds, anchored by a 5 pound even fish I caught on the swim jig (pictured with the report). The fall bite on Bois D'Arc right now is quite tough, as there is a lot of dead water on the lake, but if you can bushwack your way into the timber and find out where the creek channels snake through it, the fish are there and they are aggressive! Thank you all for reading my report and good luck on your next trip out!

Fished a club tournament with 55 anglers and finished 17th. I threw the rat-l-trap all day long. I caught a lot of little fish but the keepers came and filled my livewell. Fished over submerged hydrilla while keeping my boat in the creek channel and throwing the trap over the banks of the creek where the grass line was. You had to be persistent and keep chunking and winding. Overall it was a great day. Everything was in the Six Mile area.

Largemouths are really getting active. Find the shad…find the fish. Nothing big on this trip, but fun to catch no doubt.

They were eating the rat-l-traps today. caught probably 30 fish within a 2 hour window with some nice 2-3 lbers (x10) mixed in those 30. Reel it fast and rip it out of the grass.

Fish were pressured but biting on light finesse baits. Lighter the better for weight. Fish were stacked on structure changes in 10-12’ and bit on wind blown points.

Got to the lake around 11. We were pleasantly surprised to see Kyle Cortianas truck and trailer I. The parking lot. We finished touring the lake from the day before and found an old pump house on the water and decided to fish there. That’s were we caught our first bass of the day. We spent about six hours on the water and it wasn’t until about 4:30 before we started slayin them. We caught about 8 various sizes I less than 45 minutes. All by the points of the parking lot entrance.
