I ran this on a Modified Mepps Aglia #3 weedless along the top of grass. No bites until I got it in the grass a bit and he hammered it! Adjust the retrieve to get the depth you want. Slower cranks it gets deeper. In this case I was cranking and pasting in the top of the grass and that got him fired up. You can also just slowly drag it on the bottom. The fish will see the blade flash just a bit as it twitches being dragged on the bottom. Do this along the edge of a weed line so it kicks up a bit of a dust cloud here and there. In

Largemouth BassTechniqueSwim JigsSeasonWinterStructureFlooded BrushI went out to the lake on Wednesday, November 20th with my buddy Kevin to try and get on some big Bois D'Arc fall bass in the forest. It was bright and sunny all day, with a strong northeast wind at 15 mph and gusting up to 25 mph for the majority of the day until the evening when it eventually completely laid down. The water temperature on the lake was 61 degrees lakewide and the water clarity was at about 1.5 - 2 feet of visibility with a slight green hue to it. We fished from noon to 5 PM, and concentrated our efforts way back in the forest on the west side of the lake, specifically targeting areas where creek channels ran through the timber. We would sit our boat in the channels and then fish all the timber and flooded brush on the edges of the channel in 2-6 feet of water, pitching a jig and texas rig as well as throwing a swim jig and chatterbait. The jig and texas rig got more bites, but the moving baits, especially the swim jig, caught the majority of our bigger fish. We caught 10 fish total, and our best 5 for the day went right at 17 pounds, anchored by a 5 pound even fish I caught on the swim jig (pictured with the report). The fall bite on Bois D'Arc right now is quite tough, as there is a lot of dead water on the lake, but if you can bushwack your way into the timber and find out where the creek channels snake through it, the fish are there and they are aggressive! Thank you all for reading my report and good luck on your next trip out!

Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureFlooded BrushTPWD did an excellent job at creating a new fishery in north Texas! Bass were fishing excellent in flooded brush with lots of vegetation. Green leafed trees seemed to hold them a little better than dead ones. Get out there while those fish still haven’t seen any pressure and baits. Can catch them in large schools up shallow. Flipped and drug around a 5” senko tx rigged. If not hitting on the fall, they would bite shortly after you pop it off the bottom. If you miss one or hook one and miss it you can flip right back and get them to eat again. Over all 30+ bass caught mostly in the 2lb range but was able to get quite a few over 4 easily.

Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSummerStructureFlooded BrushI went out to the lake with my best friend and tournament fishing partner Iain and my Dad for our first time on 05/11/24. It was a mostly sunny day with morning temperatures starting in the high 50's and high temperatures reaching up around 80 degrees by the end of our time on the water, with a slight southwest wind at about 5 mph throughout the day. Water temperatures on the lake ranged from 72-78 degrees, and water clarity ranged from 1 to 3.5 feet of visibility with a tannic color to it in places. We spent the day throwing wacky rigs, chatterbaits, and texas rigs in and around the wide array of standing timber and flooded brush that the lake has to offer, and had a great day for it being our first time there and having to break it down with no contour maps or idea of the layout of the bottom of the lake at all. We ended up catching 15 on the day in half a day of fishing, and missed probably just as many, with our best 5 being somewhere around 13-14 pounds and our biggest fish being a 5 even on the scale (pictured with the report). We concentrated our efforts on mixtures of timber and green bushes in 4-12 feet of water, the closer you could get to the actual bank the better, although it was a challenge finding areas of the lake where you could actually weave a bass boat through the trees and get close to the bank. However, when you found those areas, you always caught a bass or two! I hope this report helps you break down the new lake a bit faster and catch some good bass, tight lines!
