TechniqueStructure JigsSeasonSummerStructureStanding TimberKey to todays bite was finding the right mix of standing timber and the proper depth of the grass line. When those two thing met it was lights out. The grass line was growing out to about 7-9 feet right now and if you were able to find standing timber right along the grass line and flip a jig with a Venom Lures better beaver trailer on the back of it you where in for a great time.

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureStumpsIt was an extremely tough day but I caught a tiny fish on jerk bait in the morning and then nothing for 7 hours and started throwing a 3.8 green pumpkin swim bait because the water was so clear and started casting next to some standing timber and caught a three and a half!

Largemouth Bass
TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationHad good luck fishing the grass edge with a drop shot. If you found standing timber on the grass edge it seemed to be holding better fish. The Mustad Alpha-Grip does a great job of keeping them pinned!

TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureStumpsTough day, 10+ft of visibility which I’m not used to fishing. Caught a few small bass on a ned rig and one on a jack hammer. Could see some nice ones cruising the shallows but didn’t want anything to do with what I was throwing.

TechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureLaydownsCranking along lay downs. Wind blown banks seemed to be key.

TechniqueNeko RigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureLaydownsFemales where starting to crash the shallows starting to spawn in small waves. The bite was slow but if you could get a female to bite she was solid. You had to fish through lots of buck males to get to a good female though. There was 8+ feet of visibility so you would have to make long casts but it was worth it.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureStumpsWas having a super tough day out on the pond and could only catch 10 inches on a trd. Later in the evening I saw some cheese and it wasn’t even mapped because of the standing timber EVERYWHERE. But it was a like 4-10 ft off the end of this tiny point compared to 20-30 ft off the bank near it. (It’s hard to find shallow banks) I could hear bluegill popping in the cheese floating over the stumps. I was twitching the frog very slow but still walking it. Typical frog setup, 7’ 3” Hvy, Fast Gear Ratio Reel, (7:5:1 or above) and 40 lb Suffix 832 Braid.

TechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureLaydownsSecond time ever going to brushy and was trying to figure something out. Stormed the day before and was going to storm later this day. Tried cranking dt10 and dt14 through trees but never came up with anything. Not seeing much on livescope either. Ended up going shallow and flipping laydowns and throwing spinnerbaits around cover. Had our best luck in the really small cuts that were 10ft or less. They would hammer it right when it hit the water. The Berkeley spinnerbait got destroyed by 2 musky and multiple bass and is still going strong.
