TechniqueStructure JigsSeasonSummerStructureStanding TimberKey to todays bite was finding the right mix of standing timber and the proper depth of the grass line. When those two thing met it was lights out. The grass line was growing out to about 7-9 feet right now and if you were able to find standing timber right along the grass line and flip a jig with a Venom Lures better beaver trailer on the back of it you where in for a great time.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureStumpsWas having a super tough day out on the pond and could only catch 10 inches on a trd. Later in the evening I saw some cheese and it wasn’t even mapped because of the standing timber EVERYWHERE. But it was a like 4-10 ft off the end of this tiny point compared to 20-30 ft off the bank near it. (It’s hard to find shallow banks) I could hear bluegill popping in the cheese floating over the stumps. I was twitching the frog very slow but still walking it. Typical frog setup, 7’ 3” Hvy, Fast Gear Ratio Reel, (7:5:1 or above) and 40 lb Suffix 832 Braid.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructurePointsI had best luck when I found hard bottom on points. I caught a couple dragging a Texas rigged worm but caught biggest of the day on a green pumpkin flat worm.

TechniqueShakey HeadsSeasonSummerStructureBrush PilesThe Z-Man SMH Shakey Head and WormZ were on fire around the brush piles and drop offs. We were catching them on this combo all day! The Green Pumpkin was by far the best color on this day.

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureStumpsIt was an extremely tough day but I caught a tiny fish on jerk bait in the morning and then nothing for 7 hours and started throwing a 3.8 green pumpkin swim bait because the water was so clear and started casting next to some standing timber and caught a three and a half!

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationHad good luck fishing the grass edge with a drop shot. If you found standing timber on the grass edge it seemed to be holding better fish. The Mustad Alpha-Grip does a great job of keeping them pinned!
