TechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationCovering water with a BigWorm (XZone Blitz Worm) and a Scounbug along with some secret baits resulted in a great day for catching fish. Fish on the southern side of the lake were keyed in on smaller baitfish and would only bite smaller profile presentations (110 Jr, 3.3” Keitech on an Underspin) Great fishing on a beautiful day. The Simms SolarFlex Guide Cooling hoodie was the MVP for the day and is a must have for any angler on the water, and more importantly in the sun, for extended periods of time. Prolonged post-frontal conditions didn’t have any effect on the bite. Cover water and get bit at Burke!

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationStarted the day at 0630, water level was still low but still managed to launch a Jon Boat. The lake was extremely busy being memorial day weekend with a lot of Kayaks and Jon Boats on the water. My partner started the day off throwing a buzzbait and I started covering shallow water with a chatterbait. After a few fish came on a chatterbait around sparse grass, we we moved on to bottom contact on hard bottom in 20 Feet of Water with a few bites and a single dink on a dropshot. We hit grass and grass lines the rest of the day and threw the boat at them, getting plenty of quality fish in the 3-4lb range on chatterbaits, flipping jigs/texas rigs, big swimbaits (DRT Tiny Klash), with even a citation size muskie biting the TK right at the boat with unfortunately no hooks getting in it. Partner landed big fish of the day just shy of 4lbs with our best 5 being in the 17lb range. Great day, just very crowded with a lot of boats on the water.

TechniqueGrass JigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationA 3 hour outing on Burke Lake targeting Pre-Spawn fish staging on points during low water levels made them reachable from wading further out into shallow flats. Water temperature had been stable throughout the day and a low pressure system/storm was forecasted to hit the area between 1200 and 1300. Other conditions present: overcast and a light ripple. Hydrilla was growing in well and fish were relating to the grass. All bites came on the end of long casts after ripping either the Lil' Magnum or a Chatterbait through the grass. Big fish of the day was just over 5lbs and a total of 8 fish, including a 5lb snakehead. Was an amazing short outing for targeting highly pressured fish.

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationTough bite a the very end of summer. September seems to be a tough month as the grass starts to die off, the bass move out. Lots of bait balls showing up so the bass should be chasing them very soon. These fish seem to be pretty pressured and see a lot of different baits. Match the bait size (smaller) and give them something different.
