Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonFallStructureRip RapFished a very slow moving incoming tide picking apart isolated tulles or rock ledges with a 7” Baby Bass colored Senko for a better part of the afternoon. Once the tide changed and the water started moving back out we fished a lipless crankbait against the riprap for dozens of dinks.

Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonFallStructureRip RapChased a punch bite all afternoon without any success. Threw a spinnerbait and Senko around without any luck in the tulles as well. It wasn’t until we started burning a red squarebill against the riprap that we started catching fish. You really had to reel as fast as you could and we caught over 30 fish in about an hour and a half before dark.

Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonFallStructureRip RapThe crankbait bite was definitely on today. And when they hit, there's just no doubt. The KVD 2.5 Squarebill was perfect for the situation...and the Fire Craw pattern is always a good bet! I would line up about 10 feet off shore and cast laterally to the shoreline. As soon as that crankbait started bouncing on the rip rap, hold on! I was also having some great success with a Texas Rig in slightly deeper water. (10-15 feet)

Largemouth BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSummerStructureRip RapZero reaction bites—spent the whole day soaking a Senko right on any riprap banks we found for good success. Pitched a bigger size Senko to entice some bigger bites and it worked!

Largemouth BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonFallStructureBrush PilesWell...My main goal Saturday was to get some Striper. From dawn until 10 am, I threw everything I had at that goal and came up empty. Those Striped Bass are an elusive fish for me. So just after 10, I changed over to fishing for large mouth and had a blast throwing a 5" Yamamoto Senko in the Green Pumpkin Black color right on the edge of any grass cover, of which there is plenty on the delta, and for a couple hours enjoyed pulling in a dozen or so fish. Once the wind kicked up, I called it a day and pulled off the water. Maybe next week for the Stripers...

Striped BassTechniqueHard Topwater (Walking)SeasonFallStructureOpen Water/BasinThe striper bite Topwater bite is on in the CA Delta. Lots of schoolie sized stripers are willing to bite. All fish were caught in less than 5ft of water on the flats on Topwater walking baits. The strike king sexy dawg got it done today.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonFallStructureBrush PilesDang it! A second trip out to the Delta for Striper with nothing to show for it....unless you count the bass I was catching seemingly at will in the afternoon after switching over to the tried and true Wacky Rig with a Yamamoto Senko. So much fun! And the fish were pretty good size (2-3 lbs) Back to Striper...I noticed that we were one of the few that were trolling for Striper. There were about 15-20 boats anchored up right in the deep channel lane where the San Joaquin and Sacramento Rivers meet. So cut-bait must be the way to go there? That's not my preferred way to spend the day....buy I'll probably only give trolling for striper one or two more tries before joining the herd...at least until I can haul a striper in the boat...
