- Species Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonWinterStructurePoints Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonWinterStructurePointsI ran along most of the banks around the major points targeted 5’-8’ of water. Cranking the hybrid hunter fast once I got a largemouth I would hot spot lock and fish the area for 5-10 minutes getting 2 or 3 more largemouths. Canyon lake is pretty much down to 1 boat ramp, 19 is open all week and ramp 18 is open on the weekends from 8am-4pm.
- Species Largemouth BassTechniqueHard Topwater (Prop)SeasonFallStructurePoints Largemouth BassTechniqueHard Topwater (Prop)SeasonFallStructurePointsEarly in the morning and late in the evenings the fish begin schooling on long tapering points near brush piles. Look for fish busting on the surface and immediately get a top water or jerkbait in the school.
- Species Largemouth BassTechniqueDrop ShotSeasonFallStructureBrush Piles Largemouth BassTechniqueDrop ShotSeasonFallStructureBrush PilesUse your electronics to mark fish on brush piles then either cast or vertically fish drop shots to catch them. Checked pockets and ditches. Nothing happening there. Spinnerbait on rocky points near deep water was definitely he ticket.
- Species Smallmouth BassTechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureBrush Piles Smallmouth BassTechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureBrush PilesThe water near the dam is super clear (10+ ft of visibility). For this technique you want some wind to disturb the water surface. Drop shot vertically using either a finesse worm or Shad shaped worm
- Species Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureBrush Piles Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureBrush PilesThis bait gets bites. The Senko works year round. Throw in and around brush. Texas rig weightless. Texas rig light weight. Dip the tail in chartreuse dye for more bites. Check out the video to see some of the fish you can catch on Canyon Lake with a Senko.
- Species Largemouth BassTechniqueDeep Diving Crankbaits (13'+)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureBoulders Largemouth BassTechniqueDeep Diving Crankbaits (13'+)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureBouldersCrankbaits work well on Canyon Lake. The bass are chasing shad often and the Rapala DT Series crankbaits are good at tricking them into biting. These baits work best when you can make contact with the structure or cover on the retrieve. Match the size crankbait to the depth you are fishing. Canyon Lake has very clear water, but up the river the clarity can get much murkier. Use realistic colors in clear water and bright colors in darker water. Check out the video to see this bait catch some fish on Canyon Lake.
