Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSummerStructureDocksI fished in the wicked heat and even more wicked humidity. The fish were feeling the same way I was. Slow and tight to cover. I found them tight to docks and fairly sluggish. I threw around the buzzbait and didn’t even realize I had a bite until I felt it pulled tight. Weird day with the heat, but glad I still found some!

Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSummerStructureRip RapI got out before all the pleasure boaters and jet skiers since this lake gets crazy about 11am or so. I’m glad I did because I found them early. I was cranking the dirt with a squarebill and had my boat pinned up against the rip rap. I had to make contact with the rock to get bit. The water was high and dirty, so I upsized my squarebill from the 50x to the 100x and it paid off with a nice 4lb northern strain largemouth. Decent day!

Largemouth BassTechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSummerStructureLily PadsSummer fishing at Carter Lake has been significantly harder than the last few years due to the changes in habitat and the weather. Lily pads are sparse and fish are holding to small isolated clusters of them and weed lines close to shore. Bass are feeding on bluegill close to the bank sporadically throughout the day. Bladed jigs have been working well in open water along the weed lines and the few areas of the lake with lily pads.

Largemouth BassTechniqueBuzzbaitsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureLily PadsAs the water is starting to heat up so is the topwater bite. Bass are starting to hit buzzbaits and poppers in the lilipad beds.

Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonFallStructureRip RapTONS of shad up shallow, and I mean TONS. I snagged one that was probably 12 inches. That made it TOUGH, but it was worth the wait because big mama bit my 6th Sense Crush 50x right before I needed to get off the water. I was targeting shallow rip rap in the extremely dirty water hitting every rock I possibly could and that's what seduced Bertha.
