I fished a kayak bass tournament on honeyoe lake yesterday the morning was cold about 37 degrees on the drive there. The water temp started at 49 degrees i started the day with a strike king squarebill in the crayfish pattern that caught a 20 inch walleye and a 16.5 inch largemouth. The air temp rose to around 60 during the day and water temp to 55 i ended up catching all the rest of my fish on a zman ned head with a zman trd hogz in canada craw. I was sitting between 9 to 11 feet of water over submerged vegetation and it took very little effort to get the fishes attention with this setup.

Most of the bass this time of year are on beds up shallow. There are going to be some bass in pre-spawn and some in post-spawn too, but look for shallow, protected areas where the fish can spawn. If you see any panfish beds, chances are you can find some bass roaming around those too. Texas rigs and weightless flukes are my favorite ways to target these shallow fish, but a drop shot is great if they're being finicky.

I swapped out the factory hooks on the choppo bait to mustad alpha point hooks. These things come super sharp and are really strong.
