Largemouth Bass
TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureLaydownsFished the Upper Chesapeake Bay out of Havre de Grace, MD and got onto a productive pattern almost immediately. We started fishing during dead low tide and caught fish in a three foot ditch that ran along a lily pad field. Good largemouth had vacated the pads and positioned themselves in the ditch while the water was low. They willingly ate the Jack Hammer when it was brought past them as they sat in the ditch. The bite slowed significantly as the tide began to rise, but once it began to fall again, the bite got hot. At that time, we moved to a steep bank and began catching lots of good largemouth on laydowns using the Jack Hammer. As the tide got lower, the fish positioned themselves off the ends of the laydowns in deeper water, but they still continued to eat the Jack Hammer. In fact, most of the fish inhaled the Jack Hammer. I hadn't experienced such an aggressive bite in a while!

You could see groups of bull minnows busting around the edges of the arrowhead. Lots of activity from white perch in the area as well. Gold blades and chartreuse are must haves for me when fishing tidal Chesapeake tributaries.
