Me and my partner fished the Bassmaster High School national championship a week ago and to say it was tuff would be an understatement, we just never got around the right fish. We found a few keepers in the back of a pocket we caught on a jig and on a dropshot, as well as some schooling fish outside the pocket. But Day 1 we started there but never got a keeper bite and needed to make a move. However late day 1 we moved to a grass flat caught two shorts and a 3.3 pounder on a jackhammer before weigh-in. Day two we started on the flat and caught this 2.7 pounder first cast and never got a bite the rest of the day.

You can find fish a lot of different places right now. I caught several quality fish in the grass on main lake flats, some schooling on baitfish over 30ft, but the majority of my fish came on a drop shot around deeper docks.

Fish were chasing bluegill under the mats and was able to produce several bites working a frog across them early in the morning. The heat has been unreal so not staying in the water long after sunrise but the early bite has been great!
