TechniqueHard Topwater (Walking)SeasonFallStructureSubmerged VegetationThe Chickamauga bass are up shallow and schooling! If you want an exciting day on the water I recommend heading up into 3-5ft of clear water and using your sunglasses to see them. I found multiple schools of 4-8 fish up shallow and would catch them on the top water posted above. This time of year clear water is key so if you can’t find it leave.

TechniqueSwim JigsSeasonFallStructureDocksWent to Chickamauga expecting a froggin and flippin beatdown, but tough fall conditions, bass chasing shad and 6 hours of no bites determined otherwise. Grabbed a swimjig and the outside clumps of grass in front of mats and marina docks. Turned out to be the right decision for the day.

TechniqueShakey HeadsSeasonFallStructureSubmerged VegetationSpent a week on Chick. Caught some on mats with frog, but just wasn’t getting a lot of blow ups. After a few days I moved out to the outside edges of the grass lines throwing a shakey head. Caught several good quality fish, including a 5.84. Did catch several on shell beds dragging a Carolina rigged lizard. Caught most everything in first third of creeks.

Spotted Bass
TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonFallStructureRock PileChickamauga is incredibly tough right now. Fall transition is in full effect. Cool-weather last week even slowed the frog bite. Spotted bass are staging on main channel bluffs really strong right now. Probably caught between 20-30 on Friday with around five or keepers. Fishing drop shots down the bluffs and as far out as 10 feet from the wall were key. Most fish were coming between 20-30 feet of water.

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Large)SeasonFallStructurePointsThe bite has been tough. I have been catching a few fish on the magdraft swimming across shallow points. Also landed a few holding tight to the bank on the Pad Crasher frog. As always flipping a junebug colored Rage Bug and it never fails to produce a few extra bites. With dropping water and temps they are on the move and it’s just a matter of covering water and finding that one good bite!

Smallmouth Bass
TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonFallStructureRock PileSpotted bass are continuing to be caught on deep, main channel bluffs, but there's also some nice smallmouth stacked in there with them. Fish as close to the wall as possible, and outward until you reach about 35 feet deep.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonFallStructureMatted GrassBeen at Chick all week. Bass are loaded up under mats. Look for the mats that have thin layer on top in backs of creeks. Caught some on walking a black Spro frog. Really started catching them at the end of week when switching over to the Ribbit frog with slow constant retrieve. Think the popping noise they make when retrieving mimics the bluegill.
