TechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureDocksThis outing was for 6/18/2025 and was our GreenHorn Wednesday Night Tournament for the week. The weather started out a bit wacky with a big pop-up thunderstorm delaying blastoff about 15 minutes. The wind and rain really picked up and was glad blast off was delayed. After the storm the weather was beautiful. Overall fishing was a bit slow for us without a ton of numbers, but caught good quality and brought home the WIN! We fished up shallow all night, primarily fishing docks and trying some frogging in the slop. I caught our kicker fish under a dock, which was big bass of the tournament, a 5 pounder! We culled maybe 1 time all night, but caught maybe 10 keepers, just happened that the ones in the livewell were bigger at the time.

TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationShoreline grass seems to be affected by chemical treatments. Healthier grass appears to be growing in 8-14' off the bank, fish seem to be holding in these edges and were eating finesse presentations (ned, dropshot). Fish also seem to be holding up under docks in VERY skinny water. Dock fish were biting wacky Senko's and Texas rigs skipped into the dark area's. Fish have also been caught running chatter baits in clean water near the big reed island on the west lake.

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationDuring the last few weeks in May some bass are spawning and others are done. With water in the 60-65 degree range, target bass in the shallow weed flats with a chatterbait. Look for bedding flats located in shallow bays usually 2-6ft deep with sparse vegetation and hard bottom. If you can find the beds the bass will be near. Cover a lot of ground in these bays and flats and you should have a decent day with the chatterbait as the main lure of choice. Switching to a swim jig if the weeds are dense and the chatterbait is getting hung up can help get a few more bites. You can also throw a spinnerbait in this situation as well if you are more comfortable with that over a swim jig and a chatterbait.
