TechniqueShakey HeadsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationMany fish to be caught on Cross, but a person can be easily distracted by fish in the 1.5 to 2 lb range. Fished weedlines off of submerged humps and steeper breaks along weed flats. Better fish were caught just inside the weedline on jigs, but the majority of fish were caught outside the weed edge on jig worms and ned rigs in the 14 to 18 ft range.

Smallmouth Bass
TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureHumpsThe smallmouth have been cruising the humps in their packs. The bite was tougher this weekend but managed to get a few to cooperate. Running and gunning are key as most bites came on the fall with a few coming right below the boat. Making use of the areas nearby to weeds seemed to be key which means they are feeding on the perch and smaller gills in the area. The bite should only get better in the next few weeks.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonFallStructureHumpsRunning and gunning was key. 90% of the fish came on the drop. There is no need to fish the bait for long. It is almost like flipping and pitching, but you're in 15-25 FOW. Smallmouth are in the roaming stage, looking for food before starting to school up heavily when water gets below 50. Enjoy the bite while it's here!

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonFallStructureHumpsFall fishing is in full swing. Smallies are grouped up on offshore rock humps in 20-35 feet of water. If you have them use them because the max scent flatworm is still the go-to bait. Fish are aggressive so no need to let it soak. Make as many casts as possible covering a ton of water to find the active groups. Once you find them, it will be lights out. Switch over to a WOO! tungsten 1/4 oz ned head if the bites get slow, and you should fire the school back up.
