Largemouth BassTechniqueLipless CrankbaitsSeasonFallStructureBaitfishAir temps were high 50s with low wind, 5-6mph. Water temps were a steady 50 degrees across the whole lake. Extremely clear right now, about 12-15ft visibility. Started off on my typical deep weed line spots with no luck on jerkbaits. Trolled around the basin for a bit too see if anything was out there and saw large schools of smaller fish in roughly 20-22fow on the graph. Tried drop shotting with a tiny Aberdeen hook and half of a 1in gulp to see if they were gills or perch. Nothing but nibbles when I tried to catch them. Pulled out of the basin and noticed lots of small bait fish cruising the shoreline, almost looked like fingerling bass or shiners or something, couldn't get close enough to see since they'd spook before I could get close. Majority of the weeds have died off so it's pretty barren around that depth but the bass seemed to be cruising around in the shallow water. Maybe chasing the bait fish, maybe warming up in the sun. Burned a lipless crank relatively fast at that depth around the lake and they seemed to be following that pattern on the entire lake. Hard or soft bottom, cover or not, it didn't seem to matter because as long as I fished that depth, they'd bite.

Largemouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureLedgesTossed jerkbaits on dropoffs near flats or shallow areas. Water is still very cold, long pauses worked out the best.

Largemouth BassTechniqueShakey HeadsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationNight bite, 12-3am. I just follow the contour, anywhere between 20ft and 12ft is where they seem to hang out. Drag a shakeyhead and other bottom contact baits and they'll eat.

Largemouth BassTechniqueSpybaitsSeasonSummerStructureOpen Water/BasinLots of fish caught way out deep on spy baits. They weren't biting the usual jig, so I threw my spy bait in the same areas and got them to commit. I let it sink maybe 10-15ft and slooooow retrieved it.

Largemouth BassTechniqueShakey HeadsSeasonSummerStructureOpen Water/BasinHot, calm day today. Fish were deeper than usual, around 20-25ft. Anything that gets down far enough will get them. Got them off bottom with jig, Shakey heads, and a lipless crank, also managed to get them to come up with my deepest diving crank which would still only get down to 8-10ft. Smaller than average fish, with a few larger ones mixed in.

Largemouth BassTechniqueStructure JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureLedgesFinally a good day on the boat! Crystal lake is one of my favorite local lakes. Started off fishing like I would during summer, bottom of drop offs in around 15-17ft. Caught several that way. We tried shallow afterwards which I would never usually do but we ended up catching a lot that way too. Fish are pretty scattered right now, not in their usual spots. 5-17ft will have fish, seems like they're roaming around still. 50 degree water temps, no beds, they're still getting ready to stage up. Bottom contact baits and jerk baits produced well today.

Largemouth BassTechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationLate report, I fished 6/27/21. This is a finesse heavy lake! Absolutely crushed them on all things finesse pretty much. Dropshot in all colors was king. Best bet is to stay in the 15ft+ range and target the isolated weed patches. Super clear lake so anything shallower than that seemed like it didn't hold fish at all. Got them on dropshots, finesse jigs, ned rigs, and weighted wacky worms in all the same areas. Find the deep isolated patches of weeds, find the fish. Good luck!
