Summary

What you need to know about fishing Douglas Lake

Surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains, Douglas Lake is roughly 28,000 acres large and is included in the Tennessee Valley Authority (commonly known as the TVA). Douglas Lake attracts over 1.7 million visitors each year, many coming to vacation. One of the top activities on Douglas Lake is its quality fishing. This reservoir is ranked in the top 10 lakes in the nation for largemouth bass, it is also in the top 5 for its famed crappie fishing. Douglas Lake also has great fishing for bluegill, walleye, sauger, white bass, and catfish. Many of these species are found by following the large population of Gizzard Shad. These Shad, being rich in protein, are what allow these bass and crappie to grow. Another way to find and target these fish is fishing around brush piles. These underwater communities are a hotbed and give way to all species being able to thrive. Douglas Lake has a constantly fluctuating water level, creating the water to be stained. When selecting lures, chartreuse and white are popular colors as this mimics the shad in dingy water.
