TroutTechniqueIce Fishing JigsSeasonIceStructureBouldersAfter some recent cold temps (making sure the ice is nice and solid), decided to head up to the Red Feathers area to scratch the fishing itch when I saw a decent warming trend. I don't mess with a hut so wait for some warmer temps and light wind. My go to for simply catching fish has always been live meal worms or wax worms on a tungsten ice jig. Decided to avoid live bait and try out the Berkley Gulp Maggots this go round. Set up along the dam without any luck (one nibble). Moved near some large isolated rock piles - don't get too close as the ice tends to warm up around these edges. My son caught the first one, a small brown trout, bouncing the gulp-tipped jig off the bottom and I caught the next one, a small rainbow. Rainbow was caught using the Berkley Lil' Trooper on the Berkley Half Head. Caught another rainbow with the tipped jig. The Vanish 4lb is a great ice line and picks up the subtle nibbles. If you're not getting bit, keep moving. Fish caught on the bottom in 15-20 feet.
