I went out to the lake on August 5th with my tournament partner Iain to practice for our upcoming Kings of Cowtown Championship tournament. We were able to find success and catch a 5 fish limit of about 16.5 pounds including a 6.52 kicker (pictured) that my buddy caught throwing squarebills and chatterbaits around shallow dock posts on wind blown banks in 1 - 3 feet of water. The baits of choice were the Chubbs Lures Squarebill in Hot Lights, the KVD 1.5 Hard Knock Squarebill in TN Shad from Strike King, and a Chartreuse and White ZMan Jack Hammer Chatterbait with a Rage Swimmer acting as the trailer. The water temperature was in the low to mid 80's, but the water was very stained which kept the fish shallow. Dock stretches with rocky banks and wind seemed to be the best, and the bite actually picked up later in the day when the wind picked up some. It was sunny that day with highs over 100 degrees and a strong south wind. Water visibility was anywhere from 6 inches to a foot into the water. I'll have another report on the lake soon from the tournament day, until then, good luck and thanks for reading my reports!
