TechniqueDeep Diving Crankbaits (13'+)SeasonSummerStructureRock PileYou can catch fish flipping docks but they were mostly small and larger bass were hard to come by. Caught bigger fish cranking in 15-20’ deep rock piles and rocky wind blown points. Bass were chasing shad while the wind was blowing. Once the wind stopped, the fishing died down until the sun came out and the bass pulled off the rocks a bit. Caught the biggest of the bass at 7.58 once the sun was high and hot.

TechniqueFootball JigsSeasonSummerStructureRip RapFocus on rip rap areas where the rocks don’t extend super far into the water. The fish like to set up pretty shallow at the edges of the rip rap and will ambush everything up in the rocks!

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationBass were making a new push up to beds mid lake with all the new water coming up. Caught a 6.37 on a bed inbetween some grass lines, bit immediately once the senko hit the bed. Rocky point split the creeks I was fishing in and worked around the point along the grass line. Creeks drop into about 10-15’. Saw several big bass on beds along the grass lines but couldn’t get them to bite at the time. Bass ranged from 8-10+ that were also there. Caught several male bass flipping along flooded grass and retaining walls.

TechniqueNeko RigsSeasonSummerStructureRock PileWater temps are keeping B.A.S.S. lethargic but up shallow. Slow bites and running line out, not a hard reaction bait. Slow dragging Neko rigged rage craws over rocks and stumps.

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSummerStructurePointsBass were up shallow biting pretty good in shallow rocks on main lake points. The alpha assault mustad hooks are stout and heavy gauge hooks that can turn and hold a decent bass for the whole fight. Makes it feel easier than normal to get them in.

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationGenerally in the prespawn, Eagle Mountain’s water fluctuates from a couple feet high to a couple feet low. You can find them and submerged vegetation anytime the water is high enough to reach it. Eagle Mountain generally doesn’t offer much vegetation but when it is in the water they get in it every single time. I have caught fish in less than a foot of water in this submerged vegetation countless times and it just proves to me that bass love being shallow. Don’t get me wrong, I have had my best days offshore but this is one technique that you won’t always find on the water. I set my rod up with a fast gear ratio real and 40 to 50 pound braided line. You can use any size weight do you want on your flipping rig but I really like to throw a 1/2 or above. All you have to do is flip it up onto the bank and work it through the grass or vegetation and work it as subtlety and quietly as possible. Good luck y’all! TechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSummerStructureDocksI went out to the lake on August 5th with my tournament partner Iain to practice for our upcoming Kings of Cowtown Championship tournament. We were able to find success and catch a 5 fish limit of about 16.5 pounds including a 6.52 kicker (pictured) that my buddy caught throwing squarebills and chatterbaits around shallow dock posts on wind blown banks in 1 - 3 feet of water. The baits of choice were the Chubbs Lures Squarebill in Hot Lights, the KVD 1.5 Hard Knock Squarebill in TN Shad from Strike King, and a Chartreuse and White ZMan Jack Hammer Chatterbait with a Rage Swimmer acting as the trailer. The water temperature was in the low to mid 80's, but the water was very stained which kept the fish shallow. Dock stretches with rocky banks and wind seemed to be the best, and the bite actually picked up later in the day when the wind picked up some. It was sunny that day with highs over 100 degrees and a strong south wind. Water visibility was anywhere from 6 inches to a foot into the water. I'll have another report on the lake soon from the tournament day, until then, good luck and thanks for reading my reports!
