Largemouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonFallStructurePointsThe Fall feed is going on in a big way. The fish were busting on shad really well in the morning. The hard baits did not get bit. I used the Strike King KVD Dream Shot and caught a bunch of fish in a very short period of time. I had it rigged on an Owner Cover Shot Hook. I was using a spinning rod a Shimano NASCI Reel. I had a braid to fluorocarbon set up as well. Thread the bait onto to the shank of the hook with the hook exposed and fish it like a soft plastic jerk bait and hold on.

The bass are in their fall transition big time! The ice jig bite will be heating up anytime. I caught one on the ice jig last weekend. The bait fish are tiny right now, and matching the hatch is really tough. Baits like the Ice Jig and an underspin like the 6th Sense Divine Underspin are key baits for this time of year, and into the winter months. Pair that underspin with a small swimbait. The underspin is going to need some light line like FC Sniper in 6 or 8lb test.

There are fish all over the lake right now at El Cap. There are fish up shallow, there are fish in 20', and there are fish out chasing shad in open water! In my most recent trip I caught fish on a large rat style swimbait, a shakey head and carolina rig. A topwater popper also caught fish for the back seater with me.

El Capitan is definitely in the fall transition stage. There is shad schools visible on your electronics in a variety of depths. There are fish out deep, mid-depth, and shallow. The morning bite was decent and fish could be caught on spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and a jig. Once the sun got high, and the morning was over, the bite shut down. Make sure to find areas with bait, and use shad pattern lures. A jig is also a good option in the deep areas on rock piles.

The bass are transitioning to open water and starting to focus on the shad. There are some breaking fish out in open water. There are still fish on rock piles, and grass, but soon a majority will be out chasing bait! There is a jig bite, but not great.
