TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSummerStructureStumps2nd and 3rd tourneys of the year for Colorado Kayak Bassmasters. 1st day was rough - 1 smallie caught on a neko rig right up against the shore. Day two went a lot better. Most fish landed (and all the largies) were right up against stumps sitting right on shore with a lot of offshoot branches. Usually bit within a handle crank or two. Some of the smallies were sitting in about 6' of water along similar shoreline cover or on isolated weed/grass patches. Was a very aggressive bite. Fishing from 6' out to the middle of the cove caught some walleye. Also, ended up with about a 28" catfish right up against the bank along some floating wood.

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureLaydownsWith water temperatures rising to 67°-74° to the afternoon the fish were aggressive early hitting Chatter baits and slowed down after the sun got high. Target laydowns with Berkley worms or your favorite soft plastic and have some fun.

TechniqueNeko RigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureLaydownsNeko seemed to work the best for me. Fish were by lay downs and shallow. It looked like we were still in pre-spawn. Should have gone shallow up north into the creek channel. Should have stayed in first cove when the sun came out. A 20” was caught after I had left. Finished 2nd in the tournament.

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Large)SeasonSummerStructureShadThe Lake is filled with tons of young of the year SHAD. The key to this tourney was finding coves with lots of bait+timber. Early in the morning, throw the magdraft right up against the shore as they'll be pushing bait up shallow. mid morning, try throwing it in the middle of the creek/cove in 0-8ft of water, the Magdraft will call the fish in. during the middle of the day, throw a big glide bait. they bass went crazy for the glide regardless of the size or shad around. Wherever you find bait balls, the Great lakes finesse Sneaky Underspin with the drop minnow as a trailer will allow you to stick out but still keep the right profile, action, and vibration! Good luck!
