Spotted BassTechniqueStructure JigsSeasonWinterStructureLedgesFull disclosure...I only had 4 hours in the morning cuz I wanted to get back in time for NFL playoffs, so my intent was to troll for some Rainbow or Kings...but after 3 hours of dragging lures and no results, I had to go bass fishing with the time I had left. I found a 100 foot long submerged ledge by the levy that was about 3 feet under water at the top and down to 8-10 feet on the drop off. Tied on the Strike King Casting Jig with a Ned Craw trailer. I set up about 25 feet away and cast to the ledge, popping my jig off the bottom back at me. This was the best of the day. 2 lb 4 oz. and my first bass for 2024. Here's to many, many more for us all!!!!

Spotted BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonFallStructureBouldersOK...I'm either becoming a very good Texas Rig fisherman....or I'm just terrible at the other 100 techniques I continually try to master without as much success. Today, it was the trusty Plum Zoom Trick Worm...again...that was pulling them in. Folsom Lake is always a tough one to figure out. The reports are so varied on how to approach the lake. But slow dragging a Texas Rig off of points and submerged rocks and ledges just seems to work. You can tell these bass are really beginning the fall gorge for before winter hits right around the corner. Should be pretty good out there in October.

Spotted BassTechniqueHard Topwater (Popping)SeasonFallStructureMatted GrassI went out for more Folsom Lake punishment last Saturday. :) I was committed to using Jerk Baits trying to expand my knowledge of when to use certain types of baits. But the bass just didn't respond. Just as I was planning to call it a day, I boated up a stream outlet about 50 yards and found some grass lines. I tied on Rapala X-Rap in the yellow perch pattern, and on my 4th cast, got blown up by a 2lb 9oz spottie. Man, she put up a great fight. And turned what could have been a bad outing into a decent outcome. I caught one more, not as large, before the area went silent. Wish I would have taken a better picture! But I was in too much of a hurry to get that X-Rap back out there!

Spotted BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSummerStructureBouldersAnyone familiar with Folsom Lake, knows it can be tough this time of year. The rapidly changing water levels and the increase in wake boarder activity just seems to mess with the bass. But I went out for just a couple hours on Monday, Sept 5 and got into a nice 1.5 pounder using the Yamamoto 5" Kut Tail on a Texas rig. That bait has a crazy good action. Along with the one I landed, I enticed a couple more to come out of their holes showing some serious interest. Looking forward to getting out to some better areas and using this technique.

Spotted BassTechniqueNed RigsSeasonSummerStructureBouldersRough day at Folsom. Fished from 10:00am -> 6:30pm. Fished depths from 35' to shoreline. Worked my Folsom trustees, Shad Color Crankbait, Z-Man Ned TRD, Drop-shot 6" wacky rig. Also ran a Whopper Plopper (black) quite a bit. 1 bite and 1 fish (10") all day. Caught a nice limit 2 weeks back including a 20" spot. Water level is dropping gradually but hasn't affected my normal spots. Only thing I could think was the full moon possibly affected their eating habits. Good Luck!

Spotted BassTechniqueLarge Hair Jigs (Preacher)SeasonWinterStructureLedgesFirst time ever using a large hair jig...and just wow! This was by far, my best day ever on Folsom Lake. Not a dink to be found. I put together a 14lb 1oz bag with this 4lbs 3oz kicker. Needless to say, I'll be getting right back out there with that Chicken Nugget! And I'll be buying a few more. I looked for steep drop offs, would cast to edge, let it sink about 3 feet and then a slow retrieve with tiny little twitches added in. The bites were amazingly subtle, and I feel certain I missed a few. But once I figured it out, did we have some fun!
