TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationThe fishing had slowed down and these clients were wanting to learn new techniques that they could apply at other lakes. I had them slow down and throw beds on the inside of the weed lines right along the 10-12 foot range as fish were cruising and not wanting to cooperate. They managed to catch a lot of fish once they were able to distinguish a weed from a bite and the managed to have a successful day.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureMatted GrassThe frog bite is finally happening! Found our best fish of the day up in the slop. Fishing the conditions was very important since we dealt with cloudy conditions all day. Working the frog in areas with more sparse grass was key for the bigger (3.5 pounder) fish. We also dealt with quite a few pike downs be ready for that!

TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructurePointsSmallmouth on this day were pushed up and feeding, it seems like they will be spawning later than normal this year. The conditions were cloudy which allowed the bite window for them to be pushed up into 8’ and less last a lot longer than normal. An important note with this technique is to keep it just a little bit off of the bottom to avoid fouling the bait with nasty green slime. When you found one there would usually be multiple with it to get to eat!

Walleye
TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSummerStructureRock PileWas out fishing this pat weekend 6/11 looking for anything that bites and we stumbled into this massive 29” walleye that was well over 9lbs. She at the Outkast Perfect Ned with the TRD on the back slowly dragged over a shallow rock pile. Having electronics like Mega 360 was critical to stay off of the rock pile to not spook the fish!

TechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureDocksI fished the Anglers Choice Northern Wisconsin division on Green Lake Sunday. In practice I focused on post spawn smallmouth, but on tournament day the wind was howling in on the area I had located some on shallow flats. I picked up one small keeper on a tube derby day off of a sand spot I had marked in practice, but after fumbling around trying to follow shallow grass lines in high wind we moved to docks around noon to try to fill a limit for points. We found some good size largemouth around docks throwing wacky rig senkos and beaver style baits around boat lifts. A few may have been on beds yet, but the wind made it hard to properly sight fish. We finished with 13.9 pounds and placed 10th. A lot of anglers had targeted/caught fish on deeper beds the day before, but the conditions were not conducive for seeing beds in 8 feet of water. Most fish should be just about wrapped up spawning by now, barring a few way out deep.

TechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureRock PileThe rock bass are up shallow and can be caught on when you’re fishing for smallmouth. These fish are excellent table fare and can provide good action for lesser experienced anglers and kids! I caught mine using wacky/ned rigs but a slip bobber and a leech is deadly for these little guys!
