Today was a day spent scouting for bass for the upcoming tournament. Many techniques were used and we thought we found some great fish but once we decided to cast at them on the toward facing sonar they were not smallies. It turned out to be a school of Rockbass and we had to adjust accordingly for the tournament .

The best that I’ve found for these somewhat fickle fish is a ned rig! Drag it slowly through the rocks and feel for the tick of a smallmouth picking it up!

These fish are excellent table fare and can provide good action for lesser experienced anglers and kids! I caught mine using wacky/ned rigs but a slip bobber and a leech is deadly for these little guys!
