Took the jon boat out for some river fishing and was using squarebills and football jigs. Squarebill didn't get the job done so I slowed down and fished a football jig around a fallen log that had a grass mat that floated next to it. Kept the outing short so I only had one quality bite and a few smaller fish.

Found the bass on the current seams. Fish the jig with or perpendicular to the current maintaining contact with the bottom. Fish were anywhere from 6-14' of water.

With changing discharge rates, areas that had current yesterday didn't have them today. Used mainly a Ned rig, but also caught fish on a tube. I also worked a crankbait without success.

I used a Ned rig to locate the fish, and then worked the area with a Gobius. A painfully slow drag, feeling it bump off the rocks. The Gobius produced the bigger fish.

Hard bottom with current and deep +15' water nearby was the key. Drift the Ned with the current. Almost as if you were fly fishing. Adjust weight to just tick the bottom. Water is still a bit too warm for a good fall run.
