Punching Mats - Largemouth were stacked under grass mats that had slight irregularities (change in depth, hard bottom). The grass mats were extremely thick, hence the 1oz weight used to "punch" through it. The bass were located directly under the mat due the area underneath being completely clean and barren. When the blk and blue craw punched through the mat, it caused a REACTION STRIKE upon entry. Mandatory tackle - 7'6" or 8 ft heavy action rod, coupled with 50 lb or 65 objects braided line, and a high speed reel.

Fishing Report: Deep Creek Channel Success with the New Berkley Moeba Bait The creek channel bite has been heating up, and the new Berkley Moeba bait has quickly proven to be a strong producer when targeting bass holding along deep creek channels. With changing water conditions, many fish have moved away from the shallow areas and are using deeper channel edges, drop-offs, and structure as their primary feeding zones. The key has been locating those channel swings, creek intersections, and deeper transitions where bass can suspend or sit tight to cover while waiting on baitfish to move through. The Moeba’s natural action and ability to stay in the strike zone have made it an excellent choice for probing these deeper areas. Working the bait slowly along the bottom, especially around channel breaks, submerged timber, rock, and current seams, has produced some aggressive bites. The subtle movement of the bait appears to trigger fish that may not be actively chasing but are still willing to feed when presented with an easy meal. A major factor has been patience. Instead of burning through water, focusing on high-percentage areas and allowing the Moeba to work naturally has resulted in more quality bites. The bait has been especially effective when paired with light current and deeper water where bass are using the river’s contours to ambush prey. As water temperatures continue to fluctuate, river bass will continue to position around these deeper channels. The Berkley Moeba has become a reliable option for anglers looking to target those hard-to-reach fish and capitalize on a deeper summertime river pattern. Key Areas: • Deep river channel edges • Channel bends and drop-offs • Current breaks • Submerged structure • Transition areas between shallow flats and deep water Technique: Slow presentation, keeping the bait in contact with the bottom and allowing the Moeba’s natural action to do the work. When the fish move deep, follow the channels — and don’t overlook the power of a new bait that can stay in the strike zone.

Burning a Speed Worm over a pad field, and killing it when the bass aggressively charged after it. Strikes were extremely aggressive to the point if ripping the worm off the hook.

Swimming this swimbait slowly over brush piles in 5 to 6 ft of water. The Gambler EZ Swimmer has an incredible kicking feature that "draws" fish to it. If you haven't tried it, your missing out.

FROGGING - Water temperatures are now 70 degrees at Lake Juniper. For those unaware, Lake Juniper is a big fish factory. The lake has all the ingredients for high-quality big fish - hydrilla, milfoil, lily pads, standing timber, etc. With this type of cover and the high probability of catching a "biggun", a frog is a perfect choice 👌. Today was no different. The strikes were vicious and even touching the point of damaging the frog itself. My personal choice is the RIVER2SEA Phat Mat Frog in the SNIPE color (black). This brand of frog is much bulkier than others and has an incredible ability to attract bigger fish. In essence, the a hollow body frog is an excellent lure for this lake. The retrieve was fast, with all strikes occurring when the frog was moving.
