In October the fish move from chasing minnows in 20-50 ft of water in big schools to pushing the minnows up into the reeds. They are highly active and will chase a buzzbait and smash it all the way to the boat! It is a very fun time of year to fish and the bass will hit anything moving fast on top. Walking Frogs and poppers also work great. This lake has small forage and smaller baits seem to perform better than larger baits. Water temp was 61 degrees with 10-15 miles per hour wind. Cruised along the banks casting the 3” kietech easy shiner on a weighted 1/0 1/8oz swimbait hook. It was overcast so I added a gold under spin to the weighted swimbait hooks. You can buy the loose willow blades, snap rings, micro swivels and make them your self for pretty cheap. I just slide the swivels over the hook before rigging the kietech. We caught 32 bass just slow rolling the swimbait along the reeds over submerged grass mainly in 2’-6’ of water.
