TechniqueUmbrella RigsSeasonFallStructureOpen Water/BasinLate Summer the bass move out deep. Around 9 or 10 in the morning they school up and start chasing the minnows to the surface. It looks like a feeding frenzy while 100's of bass are doing their best to catch these little minnows. The forage is 2-3" minnows so it is hard to get the bass to target in on baits bigger than that. The trick Ive found out to use on this lake in the summer is smaller baits and erratic action to mimic the minnows they are chasing. I caught 3 bass in one cast using the yum-brella 5 wire with the 2 1/2" grubs and caught many others on small 3" jerkbaits. Get a boat and take your kids out to have a blast with these "schoolies" in the summer. Link to my youtube channel of this episode https://youtu.be/nvNVYH9tKf4

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonFallStructureReedsWorked Zoom Trick worm California 420 Texas rigged working reeds and grass. This worm is the ticket. Used them along the dam as well and caught fish. This worm also works well on on Decker Lake in Austin. My fishing partner and I caut around twenty five bass in four hours. 6:30 am till 10:30 am

TechniqueBuzzbaitsSeasonFallStructureReedsIn October the fish move from chasing minnows in 20-50 ft of water in big schools to pushing the minnows up into the reeds. They are highly active and will chase a buzzbait and smash it all the way to the boat! It is a very fun time of year to fish and the bass will hit anything moving fast on top. Walking Frogs and poppers also work great. This lake has small forage and smaller baits seem to perform better than larger baits. TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureReedsI was frog fishing and following up missed fish with the worm. The monofiliment keeper kind of got in the way of a couple hooksets but i was not getting hung up all the time either. I made a video of the trip - Check it out to see how i fished this bait. https://youtu.be/AiOC8ft5NIM?si=o6D2iK0UBGaLwAdS

TechniqueSoft JerkbaitsSeasonWinterStructureLedgesI used the the Rapala Freeloader. It is a 4.25" jerk bait style lure that has ribs and a really pointy tail. I did not experience any blue gills but I would think they would bite the tail right off pretty regularly if you are fishing around them a lot. I fished the the same bait all day and it held up great. The Jig Head is a VMC Hybrid Swim bait Jig Head in 3/16 oz. You have to spin the bait onto the keeper but it worked great.
