DrumTechniqueLive Bait RigsSeasonSummerStructureDocks34-inch, 15-pound freshwater drum using what most anglers would consider incredibly light tackle—a tiny spinning rod spooled with 15-pound SpiderWire and just a small #6 hook. The fish put up an unforgettable fight, taking several hard runs before he was finally able to land it from shore. We honestly couldn't believe the size of it once it came up.

I added chartreuse to the claws early morning or when it was cloudy. I used straight green pumpkin the rest of the time. My leader length was about 30”. Although they were eating a craw bait, a lot of the bass were spitting up perch.

in the Southern basin I caught most of my fish flipping outside weedlines in 7-10 ft of water. I used a spike-it pen to tip just the ends of flappers on the D-bomb and it seemed to help. The biggest fish, 4.25 lbs came on a drop shot in 4 ft but most fish shallow were 2lbs or less

While this is definitely a tough place to fish from the bank, I managed to catch a couple decent smallmouth. The key to finding fish was depth, and clean bottom. All bites came in 12+ ft on clean rip rap banks. While it was difficult to find a lot of areas with this depth accessible from the bank, my Navionics app was key to making it at all possible to find deeper water. Good luck!

Found smallmouth loosely relating to offshore structure in 20-35ft of water. They were primarily relating to alewife and would corral them up against pieces of structure. Caught them on a drop shot as well as a dimiki rig in front of the boat or below it. I would pan around with Mega Live until I saw a group of smallmouth and throw at them with a dropshot if they were near the bottom or the dimiki if they were higher up in the water column. Some fish we barely under the surface at times.

in the southern basin bass frogs and punching were the techniques I used with frogs doing the best. Caught pike and bowfin on the punch rig. When the sun came out wacky rig started producing around docks and weed lines
