Lake Details

What you need to know about fishing Lake Geneva

Lake Geneva is a 5,400-acre water body with a mean depth of 61 feet and a maximum depth of 135 feet. With proximity to the most densely populated area of Wisconsin and Chicago, Lake Geneva is a very active area for water sports and fishing. Species present include largemouth bass smallmouth bass, crappie, walleye, panfish, perch, white bass, lake trout, rainbow trout, brown trout and northern pike. The extreme depth of Lake Geneva supports cold water species and creates one of the few in-land “two-story” lakes where lake trout can be caught. The depths also create thermoclines that result in reduced oxygen levels in some areas of the lake. Smallmouth bass can be found along shallow weed lines in the spring and in schooled up in depths as deep at 30 feet in the fall. Warm summer nights are great for trolling walleye with live bait rigs, Reef Runners, and Lindy rigs tipped with minnows and lead core. Largemouth bass can be found near man-made structures like docks and on weedlines and will be caught using bass jigs and tube baits. Summers become crowded with non-fishing recreation sports.
