TechniqueHover/Mid-StrollingSeasonSummerStructureBaitfishFinding spots chasing blue hearing on shoals was the easy part. Getting them to bite a minnow was very difficult. Definitely heavily pressured fish.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSummerStructurePointsThe largemouth and spotted bass and in the full summer mode. found a big school of both species on the side of a point. They were both on top of or near big rocks on the bottom. I caught 18 off that one point in 30 mins. I also threw a jig in the school and was able to catch 3-pound spots.

TechniqueNeko RigsSeasonSummerStructurePointsYou are able to find a lot of fish out in deeper water. Getting them to bite is the hard part, it is mostly a timing thing so you will need to return to fish throughout the day. In the morning you can catch fish on moving baits like deep crank baits and jerk baits. Once the sun gets up high in the sky you need to switch to bottom baits. The neko rig is a great way to catch fish when they don’t want to bite. It helps when you can stay back off the fish so I’m using a 7’6” rod to gain some extra distance. It helps a lot to have a sensitive rod like the Steez AGS because most of the fish are biting on slack line or just mouthing the bite.

TechniqueDamiki RigSeasonSummerStructureBaitfishDespite the rain all week the water was moderately stained. Fish definitely running bait on points, the fish got bigger on the points closer to the main lake. Have a fluke or topwater ready to cast on schoolers. Just work points with daimiki rig or shakey head.
