This is my second trip to Lake Hickory. Wow this lake is all over the place. Duke energy has lowered the water level, plus the storms, and cold snap. Largemouth spawn is over and spotted bass is starting. You will see the fish on your finder suspended 7-15ft or on beds and skittish, and they want NOTHING to do with whatever you throw. List of things that didn't work; Jerk, crankbait, drop shot, wacky worm, Ned rig, swim jig, finesse jig, blades jigs, whopper poppers, craws, senkos, mites,...etc. hopefully when Duke energy stops messing with the water level and spawn is a little further along the spots will be biting. I had one on Ned, 8in of water and I threw a Shakey head, the tail was slapping him in the face and NO BITE ugh. Visibility is 1-3ft, generally calm water. The one I caught today was first cast right next to launch. I was using the reaction tackle Shakey head hook, which I love.

Great bass under the docks this week. Some in the brush along the banks on the south side.

Lake Hickory Water level down 3ft Clarity 1-5ft This was my first time on Lake Hickory, I covered about 17 miles worth of shore line. I'll say this, the area I launched my kayak from was NOT the right spot. It was tough all day (10 hours). I only caught 3 bass all 9 inches, one was just shy of 10 inches. Tons of boats out, only saw 4 other catches, that weren't very big either. This is a tough lake, the fish are already running deeper, in the middle section of the lake. This place is deep, most docks are floating because it's still 20 ft, or more, at the walls. But there is a good mix of sand, rocks, grass...etc. I threw everything; Ned, drop shot, wacky rig, shakey head, chatterbait, spinner bait, crankbait, buzzbait, and jerkbait. I'll be back again a couple times this month gearing up for a tournament, but I'll be breaking down the lake section by section to get a more thorough idea of what this lake is showing.
