TechniqueLive Bait RigsSeasonSummerStructureLedgesFishing this week was tough. We tried everything. Lindy's with crawlers and leeches. Bottom bouncers with slow death rigs. Casting jerkbaits, ned rigs, drop shot, soft plastic paddle tails. We fished flats, rock humps and weed edges. All in areas where we can confirm there was fish (many times the fish looked at my leech on the live sonar and swam away). The few fish we did catch, especially a 15.5 not shown, was a fat as a football likely gorged with mayflies and other baitfish. July is a tough month on Kab. Where we did hear of success was really slow presentation of live bait rigs with a bare hook tipped with a leech moving very slow (0.5 mph or even less). Still the fish in the pic was caught with an Authentix Puls-R 3.25" PB&J on a rock reef in 14FOW. Fluke? On a week like this maybe!

TechniqueVertical Jigging Deep (20'+)SeasonFallStructureBrush PilesUse your electronics to locate the fish, they will look like a Christmas Tree on your normal 2D sonar. Look over soft bottom areas in about 30' of water. I like to tie my mono to the braid giving about 5' of mono and putting the snap swivel on the bait. Jig above them slowly and when you feel them bite give a second before you set the hook. Good Luck

TechniqueHard Topwater (Popping)SeasonSummerStructureBouldersLove the Top Water! Use your electronics or a lake map to find a shallow humps. Start casting the deeper edge and then work your way up that way you won't spook the fish as much. I like to use a braid mainline but you could use mono for a mainline as well, if you use braid tie a mono leader direct to the mainline about 6' to 8'. When the Smally hits wait 5 seconds for it to be able to get the bait into is mouth, don't set the hook immediately. Use a moderate action if you have one. You can use a snap or tie direct to the bait, most of the time I tie direct. The bigger the rocks the better! Good Luck

Crappie
TechniqueVertical Jigging Deep (20'+)SeasonFallStructureOpen Water/BasinFall is one of the best times for Crappie, use your electronics to locate a 30’ deep soft bottom basin. Drop to the bottom and reel up just above the fish and start working you jigging rap slowly. Watch how they react to your bait, you may want to tip the treble hook with a minnow head. If they don’t hit right away try playing keep away by raising your bait and trying to make them follow you. I like to use fireline with a short piece of mono with a swivel or tie the mono directly to the braid. Good Luck!
