WalleyeTechniqueVertical Jigging Deep (20'+)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureLedgesOpening weekend on Kabetogama is sometimes a little different from what most fisherman normally see. The fish normally have just spawned and move out on the first or second break off of the shorelines and are resting. They are a lot of times they are resting in 20'-35' of water. Use your electronics to locate the fish and vertical Jig above them with a Fathead minnow or a Shinnner Minnow. I like the stand up jigs better for this and if they are short striking use a stinger hook. If you can use a 1/8 oz Jig or a 1/4 oz Jig. Use the 10 lb braid as your mainline and tie 5' of mono to your braid, using a double uni-knot or a small swivel. The water is normally very cold less than 50 degrees and you want to fish slow.

WalleyeTechniqueVertical Jigging Shallow (0-9')SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureBaitfishfind the wind blown shorelines and points in the spring, a 1/8 oz jig tipped with a fathead or shiner minnow is a killer bait. After the walleyes spawn they will pull out into deep water and rest for a few days and then they will have the feed bags on. find the wind blown shorelines and points use your electronics to locate the fish and pitch or vertical jig for them, normally fish 1'-15' of water. I like to use 10 lb braid as my mainline and a length of 6-8lb test mono about 3'-5' long tied to the braid or a small barrel swivel to join them together. If you are having short strikes use a stinger hook, just clip it on and stick the hook in the tail of the minnow. Good Luck.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureLedgesOne of the funnest times of the year to fish, is fishing for Smallmouth Bass in the spring. Just find a rocky shoreline that shallow water extends out on a shallow flat mixed with rocks, gravel, and sand. Cast the DT-4 onto the shoreline as close as you can to shore, and just put your trolling motor down and start working the shoreline. Very your retrieve speed and direction as you reel your bait in. I like using the DT-4's because they are very durable, cast like a rocket, they float, they have very sharp hooks and, rarely get snagged up. Make sure you check your line often as the first 5'-10' get very nicked up easily doing this kind of fishing, I like the XT mono as it doesn’t get Knicks as easy.

WalleyeTechniqueVertical Jigging Deep (20'+)SeasonFallStructureHumpsThe Fall Bite is ON! As the water cools and things transition to winter the bite just keeps getting better. Use a lake map or your electronics to locate mid lake humps and scan them with your Garmin Live to locate fish if you have one or use your regular electronics. Throw past the fish and work your bait to them. You may have to use a few different jigging techniques to get the Eyes to bite. I like braid as a mainline and use a swivel between the braid and the mono and tie direct to the Jigging Rap. Make sure to check your hooks to make sure they are sharp and the rocks take a tole on them. Good Luck!

WalleyeTechniqueLive Bait RigsSeasonSummerStructureHumpsLook for wind blown shorelines and structure, watch your electronics for fish. Troll about 1/2 mph. Use leaches, crawlers and minnows. If using a crawler use the worm blower to give it a puff of air that will keep it of the bottom. When you feel the bite release your line and feed it to them to a count of 10 and reel back to the fish slow tell you feel the fish and set the hook.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonFallStructureBouldersFall can be one the the best Smallmouth fishing of the year. Look for main lake humps and rock piles and watch your electronics to locates the larger rocks and fish. You can cast and very your retrieve or vertical jig. I like to tie about 5' of mono directly to the braid mainline, check the first few feet of line for nicks and your knots often . Good Luck!

Smallmouth BassTechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureLedgesSpring is a great time to cast Chatter Baits on the shorelines and shallow points. Look for shallow rocky shorelines that have a slow taper and put your trolling motor down and start casting the shoreline. Very your speed and direction. I like to tie about 5’ or XT to the fireline as a little shock absorber, check your knots and the last few feet of line often for nicks. Good luck!🎣

WalleyeTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureRock PileLook for wind blown shorelines or Humps and use your Side Scan on your Electronics to locate fish if possible do not drive over the fish in shallow water. Put your Trolling motor down and start casting onto the Sand and Rocks on the Shoreline. Very your retrieve, starting, stopping pulling side to side, twitching. Each day is different and you will see what works better today. When you find a school spot lock and cast that area. Good Luck!
