Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonFallStructureReedsWednesday morning tournament, left out of Overstreet ramp and headed across the lake to Strum Island, starting off shore around the submerged trees but the wind was too much so we moved over along the grass edge and worked north. Didn't get any bites so we moved to the inside of the grass and reeds. Working a cut that had the wind blowing through it, I caught a small one on a Yum Dinger in cranberry. While trying to weigh it and get it in the live well my partner said he got one and needed the net. So with bass in one hand and net in the other got his bass in the boat, a 5lb. 15oz beauty, pictured, that he got on a buzz bait. Water temp was 62 and I was surprised that it bit the buzz bait. We stayed in that general area and caught a limit quickly before moving along. Fished inside the grass line all morning and made a few culls before heading in just before 11.

Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureLaydownsThrow squarebill around any structure. Fish as slow as possible. The bigger fish have come off submerged grass and outside pads. The lighter line the better.

Largemouth BassTechniqueShakey HeadsSeasonFallStructureMatted GrassI went out to lake Kissimmee to just fun fish and wound up finding some good fish on a Gambler big ez. I was targeting matted Kissimmee grass with holes in it. The water depth was ranging from 3-4 ft. I believe these fish were feeding up to spawn. If one would miss it I would throw a gambler fat ace back in at it and they would eat it. This is a really good pattern for the fall time in Lake Kissimmee.

Largemouth BassTechniqueCarolina RigsSeasonWinterStructureLedgesTypical cold front conditions in Florida, when fronts hit, the bite shuts down. Fished some canals where the water has been flowing due to recent storms. Managed one decent 3-1/2 pounder throwing a C-Rig on a rocky drop off. A tournament the same day was won with 17-1/2 pounds and came primarily via flipping main lake vegetation.

Largemouth BassTechniqueCarolina RigsSeasonSummerStructureOpen Water/BasinThe fish were stacked up after Hurricane Ian. We caught 50+ fish from 3.5 pounds up to just under 8 pounds throwing Carolina rigs, 8-12 foot crank baits, and big soft plastic swimbaits where the water was moving. Our best 5 went 35 pounds.

Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonFallStructureMatted GrassWell, fall is in full effect and the water temps have dropped significantly. Most places on the lake the water temps are in the high 60s / low 70s. Additionally, they have the lake drawn down. Most of the good areas that normally have 3' - 4' of water have about 1.5'. This draw down has really limited the amount of available water to efficiently fish. With the water cooled off, the best thing to do is lock a punch rig in your hand. The trick is to find blown in hyacinth in areas that have at least 2' of water under them. Its also important to find the cleaner looking water. Most of the hyacinth is pretty packed in because of all the wind we get this time of the year. A 1.5 Oz weight is the lightest weight I could get through most places successfully. I like the Gene Larew Hammer Craw when I am punching. It is a smaller, less intimidating, bait and holds a Gamakatsu Super Heavy Cover Flipping Hook really well. When you get a bite its going to be a good one. Make sure you are using a big enough rod to get them out of that stuff. I like a Dobyns Champion XP 806. It takes a little time to find the right stuff right now, but this is a great time of year to catch giants. Good Luck - Dicky D

Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureMatted GrassThis time of year on the Kissimmee Chain I usually look forward to a cold front. The reason is it puts most of the bass that are around spawning locales in to the matted grass. 1.5 Oz tungsten sinker, 7-9, 6 power Scenko Stix Flip Stick, 8:1 Reel, and a Gambler lures Burner craw gets the bite every time. They key is identifying the mats adjacent to the spawning areas and than dialing in the depth and composition of the productive mats. It may take a while to get the first bite but once you get dialed in, your efforts can play big dividends and put tournament winning stringers in the box.

Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureMatted GrassPunched mats for about 4 hours caught some 2-3 pounders. Seemed like slightly deeper water and little points were key. 1.5oz Hawgtech Tungsten and a Gambler Stinger on a 4/0 Strike King Hack Attack Hook
