Largemouth BassTechniqueBuzzbaitsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationA pre-frontal day with storms approaching from the west. Wind blowing steady at 10–15mph under cloudy skies, with a high of only 60°F — a sharp drop after a stretch of much warmer weather. Water was very clear and the grass was beginning to grow thicker across the lake. Most fish were either spawning, or just finished spawning. I chose to target the post spawn fish as I was searching for my first top water bass of the season! I caught 8 bass total, 2 came on a 1/8oz texas rig style drop shot using a 4 inch morning dawn roboworm. The other 6 came on a 3/8oz Megabass Jamaica Boa JR. Buzzbait in black mamba. The bass were smashing a buzzbait in very shallow water and seemed to be fired up as the storm approached! I like a black buzzbait during cloudy conditions, I feel like it stands out better against the clouds. The Megabass Jamaica Boa JR. Buzzbait is super squeaky and calls fish from a long distance away. I added a chartreuse twister trailer along with a trailer hook. I fished the buzz bait over the submerged grass in 3 feet of water along wind blown banks.
