Smallmouth BassTechniqueSwim JigsSeasonFallStructureLaydownsAn absolute killer day fishing the Rock River/ Lake Kosh. Me and my buddy hammered them fishing white swim jigs. The smallies were chasing small shad/minnows in the shallows. The key was feathering Dirty Jigs white or chartreuse swim jigs over wood and brush near rock shoreline. Our best 5 went over 16 lbs. Including the 4.5 and the 3.5 shown in this picture! Do not forget white swimjigs in the Fall!!

SaugerTechniqueLive Bait RigsSeasonSummerStructureDocksIn the summer I had success just downriver from the lake using a jig-n-minnow around docks to pull walleye and sauger out of the shadows. Docks that provided the best current breaks worked best as well as the bridge pilings. It was key to maintain bottom contact with small hops in order to stay in the strike zone. Places where there were small depressions in the bottom held fish.

Northern PikeTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonFallStructureDocksIn the fall I cranked around docks and boat lifts and produced some pike and bass. It was key to bump the bottom with the squarebills but also pause every now and then to let it rise. I generally paused it right next to the corner poles of the structure and that got some good bites.

Largemouth BassTechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonSummerStructureLaydownsRock River—July 3–The fishing was tough. I grinded for a half-day just for this one largemouth one a spinnerbait. Spinnerbaits seem to be the ticket for dirty rivers.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureRip RapRock River—June 19–The River finally warmed up enough for the bass to get shallow. We caught a mixed bag including a handful of bass on soft paddle-tail swimbaits on a jighead.

Largemouth BassTechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureReedsMay 30–With the water still being somewhat cold, I tied on a spinnerbait and slow-rolled it around lay downs. We didn’t get many hits, but this one was almost 4 lbs so it paid off.
