TechniqueHard Topwater (Walking)SeasonSummerStructureDocksToday was 85 degrees with a slight breeze. Best quality bites came on the Zara spook. Topwater bite slowed down unless you found shade as the sun got high. Caught spinnerbait fish on a few windy banks and when we slowed down I threw a rage bug on rock piles and around grass. Fish came from 0 to 15’ deep. Rods by Irod fishing!

TechniqueHard Topwater (Walking)SeasonSummerStructureDocksCloudy overcast day with a nice breeze for once. Today I fished lake LBJ. It was pretty slow but I picked up a few here and there. I mostly fished the docks. Skipping a frog under the docks you can. I found most of my fish on deeper docks meaning 5 to 10 feet. Lots of bites and blow ups on the spook. I fished the rage bug around the grass and docks when the wind picked up.

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureDocksThe senko works everywhere year round. This bait especially works well on Lake LBJ. Flip a senko into any dock and the chances are you will get bit. I prefer a green pumpkin color with flake in it. Find brush pile on Lake LBJ at the back of boat docks. Check out the video of the Texas rigged senko finishing off a limit for a W on Lake LBJ.

TechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructurePilingsThrowing a spinnerbait in the river sections of Lake LBJ can produce big bass. When the dam is open spinnerbaits work around piling and retaining walls where there are current breaks. A swimbait trailer has gotten me bites when using this bait. Gold blades for murky water and silver blades for clear water is a good rule of thumb for spinnerbaits. The spinnerbait is good selection for a moving bait option when the bass are chasing shad. Check out the video of a 7LB bass smoking my spinnerbait first cast of the morning in a Media Bass tournament.

TechniqueDeep Diving Crankbaits (13'+)SeasonFallStructureBouldersChilly morning with little wind today. Top water early but didn’t last long. Found some nice fish with a DD22 bumblebee crank. I was Throwing Irods Quercus 7’10” wild card deep Crankin rod with an Abu Garcia revo winch 5.4:1 and 12# Kastling Kovert Xtreme line. Skipping docks with sencos also produced some fish today as the sun got higher. No cloud cover. High bright sun today.

TechniqueDeep Diving Crankbaits (13'+)SeasonFallStructureBouldersFirst of all the lake is muddy from our past storm. Water temp was 68.4. Shallow fishing was a bust for me. Water visibility was poor. A lot of schmuck while trying to skip shallow docks. I fished deeper docks with cranks and skipped a senco. Not a lot of fish caught but it was a nice peaceful day out on the water. I used a Irod Quercus wild card deep Crankin rod paired with a revo winch and Berkley big game green 12#. While skipping I used a Irod Genesis III IRG714C-H paired with a revo zeta using 50# power pro braid. I pegged a 3/16 oz sinker with a 5” green pumpkin senco. All my bites were in deeper water on rock piles or skipping deeper docks.
