Crankbaits, bladed jigs, spinnerbaits, & swim jigs have been producing early morning bites but once the sun gets above the trees, its time for the finesse baits or jigs out deep or around the shade lines of the docks.

TechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSummerStructureBouldersWent out early in the morning on a cloudy and calm day. This morning I was throwing the Megabass Vision 110 in Mat Shad color because the water visibility was about 6 feet and it was cloudy so this Mat Shad is the perfect color. I was throwing this on the St. Croix Mojo Bass 7ā1 MH paired with a Daiwa Ballistic MQ LT 2500 spooled with 15lb braid and 12lb mono leader. Majority of the fish I caught today were around boulders in around 5-10ft of water. Today, I got most of the bites working the jerkbait pretty fast. The jerkbait bite slowed down as the sun came out higher and higher.

TechniqueHard Topwater (Popping)SeasonSummerStructureDocksGot out on the lake around 7am in the morning to fish topwater around docks. This morning the water temps were around 75-79 degrees and 4-5 ft of water clarity. Little to no wind early in the morning made it perfect to throw the Megabass PopMax topwater around docks. I was throwing the PopMax on a St. Croix Mojo 7ā1 MH spinning rod paired with a Daiwa Ballistic MQ 2500 spooled with 15lb braid and 12lb mono leader. I also used a snap clip for the PopMax to allow it to swing back and forth freely. Most of my bites this morning came along the shade of the walkways of the docks and by working it slowly. This PopMax is very versatile because when Iām going between docks I can cast it out and walk the popper like a walking bait in open water as well.
