Largemouth BassTechniqueTubesSeasonSummerStructureMatted GrassNo wind. Lower water levels, tons of matted weeds. Water clarity low. Frogging not very successful. Switched to tubes. Only had white with me. Found pockets of open water within the matted weeds, worked the edges with moderate success.

Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationTypical hot (albeit windy) summer day…a time to break out some noise and vibration! Wind was stout at 10+ mph with 25mph gusts at times. That resulted in less overall pressure and recreational traffic as well. Many bass were to be found within and along the matted/submerged vegetation, but I mostly pulled up dinks today (14” - 16”) off some shallow crank baits with most success coming off the Hybrid Hunter! Every now and then I would even get a tiny bass on it that is nearly the same size as the lure! On the return paddle back, I switched over to the Jackhammer Chatterbait and got hit with a handful of northern pikes along the weed line of the vegetation within 3’ - 10’. Interestingly, I did hit one trolling along the 20’ depth as well; but I’d say that’s an anomaly.

Largemouth BassTechniqueHard Body SwimbaitsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationThese northern largies eat the glidebaits, too! Just working the S-Waver 168 parallel to an outside weed edge in about 15’ of water. If you ever watch TacticalBassin, a good retrieve for this lure is 4 handle turns, twitch rod 2x, then repeat and repeat.

Largemouth BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationBite's been tough the last few weeks post spawn and the weeds are definitely in thick. I haven't had any success with chatterbaits, buzzbaits or jerkbaits. I was out from 10:30am-4:30pm and resorted to using a wacky rig around noon. There are a few fish shallow if you can find the pockets to cast into, but the best bite was throwing right near the weed line/drop offs at points in the 8-12ft range, especially wherever the sunfish were.

Largemouth BassTechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationWarm and sunny day (~90) with heavy recreational boaters out. Vegetation (lily pads and milfoil) was thick and can range anywhere from 2' to 30' from shore depending on the lake. We probably would've done better with some frogs...but, of course; we didn't bring any this day! Wife had some luck with some wacky rigs (with a weed guard) while I found some success with dropshotting rigged weedless style. For drop shot, there were more bites on the longer 4" - 6" baits today than the standard 2" - 3.5" ones. Bluegills were bedding along shore and bass were often within the weeds and/or not far away.
