Bobby Roberts and I dumped in around Bollinger and stayed in that upper river stretch between Bollinger and Proctor Creeks. It ended up being one of those fun, nasty, windy, rainy summer days where you think you have a plan, but the bass didn’t care. We went in planning to skip a jig around docks, but that never really showed up for us. We just played the conditions we were dealt, and the moving bait bite saved the day. We put around 20 bass in the boat, with our best five in that 15 to 16 pound range. Most of our bites came in the backs of creeks around the docks, not necessarily under them. We even caught some all the way in the very back, as shallow as you could possibly get a bass boat. The two baits that did the damage were the Motion Fishing Seeker Pro and the Motion Fishing Soundcheck buzzbait. With the wind, rain, and clouds, something moving was the ticket. So if you’re headed that way, don’t sleep on the very backs. That bite’s starting to heat up when we get these weather changes. Caught lots of 14”ers and picked-up a few keepers up shallow, also behind docks midway back of coves.

With the water finally cooling down, the topwater bite is heating up. This past week I have been catching fish extremely shallow on the Crock-O-Gator Head Knocker buzzbait. These bass are relating to riprap and large rock, especially behind docks. I am targeting main lake banks to about halfway back in the coves. This bite should continue to get better through the fall!
