Largemouth BassTechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructurePointsFish bank lines that face the north or northwest. Other areas that will have fish will be shallow pockets with clear water and protection from all wind. Larger bites came on frogs, spinnerbaits and tx rigged lizards (3/8 oz), with a lot of bucks on the pink worm and chatterbaits. Fish are shallow 1ft or less.

Largemouth BassTechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureRip RapReally tough post cold frontal conditions in sub freezing temperatures on Lake Palestine during my tournament. On Day 2 the sun came out but water temps were still in mid 40s. I focused on riprap and areas that the sun could warm, looking for a reaction bit and bass cruising up against warming structure. I had success slow rolling a Bassman Compact Tandem spinnerbait through these long areas in both the morning and late afternoon.

Largemouth BassTechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureLaydownsRecent cool weather had the water temps a bit low and has had a bit of an impact on growing vegetation. Bass are starting to move up shallow in spots. I had the most success using a spark shad swimbait on an okashira screwhead swimjig head around laydowns, stumps and edges of vegetation that were just starting to green up a bit. Water on north end where I fished is very muddy with about 8 inches of visibility max, so adjust your presentation and colors for this condition. As temps warm up, this lake is going to be on fire.

Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureRip RapI fished the lake on 05/21/22 for the final regular season stop of the Inaugural season of the Collegiate Bass Trail of Texas. The lake had anywhere from 6 inches to a foot of visibility, and ranged in temperature from 78 to 82 degrees depending on which section of the lake you were on. It was partly cloudy outside with a strong southeast wind and temperatures starting in the mid 70's and warming up into the mid 90's by the end of the day, with a cold front coming through later that night. We were able to capitalize on a good shallow cranking bite in the morning on one of the bridges on the lake, and then were able to catch some deep cranking on a deep submerged roadbed bridge adjacent to the bridge later in the morning. After catching a solid limit there, we were able to cull up 2 times late in the day throwing swim jigs near grass lines in the back of a deeper creek arm, focusing on banks with wind and shade. Overall, our limit weighed 15.37 pounds, which was good enough for 8th place and locked up a 5th place finish for us in the Angler of the Year race for the trail. Below is a picture of our bag from the tournament, thank you everyone for reading and tight lines!
