Crappie
TechniqueVertical Jigging Mid Depth (10-19')SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureStumpsThe cold streaks and rains have the crappie offshore and the bite is slow. The water is 57 so I expect they will be moving up shortly. Each morning was able to get about 15 in the boat with small tubes and shad spikes at about 16-18 feet.

Walleye
TechniqueFinesse JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureDamI found that the Bobby Garland 2" Baby Shad baits are effective at Lake Shelbyville. I caught crappies and walleyes using the baits. In the spring this year, I actually caught a 16-inch walleye in the spillway.

TechniqueSwim JigsSeasonSummerStructureFlooded BrushCaught a majority of my fish on an Angler Assets Table Rock Shad spinnerbait early. As the sun came up, I switched to the swim jig and a jack hammer. Fishing flooded willows with clear water. The better stretches of willows had deeper water and an overabundance of bait in the area. The lake was stabilizing and even dropped some on day 2. This pattern was good enough to win my 3rd Illinois Bass Federation Championship
