TechniqueSwim JigsSeasonSummerStructureFlooded BrushCaught a majority of my fish on an Angler Assets Table Rock Shad spinnerbait early. As the sun came up, I switched to the swim jig and a jack hammer. Fishing flooded willows with clear water. The better stretches of willows had deeper water and an overabundance of bait in the area. The lake was stabilizing and even dropped some on day 2. This pattern was good enough to win my 3rd Illinois Bass Federation Championship

Walleye
TechniqueFinesse JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureDamI found that the Bobby Garland 2" Baby Shad baits are effective at Lake Shelbyville. I caught crappies and walleyes using the baits. In the spring this year, I actually caught a 16-inch walleye in the spillway.

TechniqueMedium Diving Crankbaits (7'-12')SeasonFallStructureLaydownsThis was an overcast day with light to moderate chop on the water. Air temp was 76 and water visibility was about 3 ft. We fished standing timber and lay downs in 0–15 ft and had to find shad to be successful. We caught fish on a skeet reese rod with a KVD quantum spooled with 15 lb power pro super slick to Seaguar 15 lb fluoro using mid depth crankbait with a fast retrieve. Fish were also caught with Veritas rod with a Lews speed spool reel and 20 lb power pro super slick to 15 lb fluoro and a Strike King sexy shad crankbait.
