Smallmouth BassTechniqueHard Topwater (Walking)SeasonSummerStructureBouldersFast walking and then long pause drive these smallies crazy in the early morning. The earlier the better for the top water bite, soon as the sun is fully up the top water bite shuts down

Smallmouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonFallStructureLedgesMore fun with the fluke today, probably ended up with 15+ fish in about an hour and a half, best fish probably went 2lb but I didn't bring my scale, great cheap fun, drop offs from shallow feeding areas near the shore to deeper water were clockwork level predictable, right at the transition is where you get bit.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonFallStructureRip RapBaitfish season is upon us, despite my pig headed attempts to force the fish to eat my jig this week (just bought some new ones and I'm dying to put them to use) they were having none of it, rip rap and the few remaining patches of live grass are holding the fish, a relatively slowly worked fluke in either White Ice or Sexy Shad got all the attention rigged weightless on a 4/0 Offset Roundbend worm hook, just below the surface, no need for a super sensitive rod or anything, this time of year these fish aren't shy and they won't leave any doubt when they hit a fluke, just remember to hang on so they don't rip the rod out of your hands. A medium fast spinning rod with a 2000-2500 size reel will do it, 15 lb braid to an 8lb leader (I like Maxima Ultragreen but Stren and Trilene XCARET other solid alternatives) this is one of the best and most cost effective ways for folks looking to jump in to fishing or for those on a budget to get some solid numbers

Smallmouth BassTechniqueFootball JigsSeasonSummerStructureBouldersPrefishing for a upcoming tournament. Found an area where there was a ton of bait balls. 20-25 feet of water was the magic depth. Cast and drag back, you’d get bit almost instantly! Smallies were aggressive! Staggered between the PB&J and Stealth Craw pattern. PB&J was more consistent.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueHard Topwater (Popping)SeasonFallStructureBaitfishBeen getting into the summer/fall transition, and it's gotten to feast or famine from the shore, Pop-R's and Jerkbaits have been getting it done for me lately, haven't had much luck on many moving baits but if they are going to bite one it's been a squarebill lately.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueLipless CrankbaitsSeasonSummerStructureLedgesA rattletrap fished quickly and erratically along lips, ledges and drop offs produced half a dozen fish in about 90 minutes on the Columbia River today about 1800-1930 local, grass is almost becoming a problem for treble hook baits, another couple few weeks and it'll probably be time to switch to a swim jig until the salad starts to die off again in the autumn. Best colors were shad patterns, blacks, whites, Grey's and chromes

Smallmouth BassTechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSummerStructureRock PileNew PB tonight, went 15 fish landed and 17 hooked in 90 minutes in the Arlington/Roosevelt area, red Owner Ultrahead Inshore Swimbait hook paired with a 4in BioSpawn Exoswim Feider Shad absolutely obliterated them in the rocks tonight, didn't seem to matter too much whether I fished it fast or erratic or slow, it just flat got bit
