This time of year guys like to get out early after ice out on lake Waconia to get on a crappie bite. Crappies are found moving around in schools 6-14 ft of water. The south shoreline on Lake Waconia becomes a popular spot for guys to find schools of crappies in early spring. They will catch them on little hair-jigs or smaller spinners, but also a lot of guys will be throwing a small jig with a crappie minnow on a bobber.

Look for warm water and weeds in 2 to 8 feet of water. The bass come in early to warm up and feed before the spawn. I like to us baits that look like blue gills.
