TechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationI fished shallow Saturday morning, mainly targeting 3-8 f.o.w on flats just off the main river channel. The key was weeds. The walleye and sauger were up in there chasing bait. Jig and plastic saw the most action and produced more bites. Casting cranks was also effective at triggering fish. Most fish were "shorts" with one 18" walleye caught.

TechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSummerStructureBouldersSmallmouth bite was very good this past weekend with most bites coming from main river bluff walls that had adjacent deep water. These areas with small eddy's almost guaranteed fish. Wacky rigged Senko and Ned craws were my most productive baits.

TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureDocksHad a tournament out on Lake Wisconsin this past weekend, and the weather conditions were causing the lake to fish a little tough. We had most of our luck catching largemouth shallow around docks or protected bays where the water was warmer than the rest of the lake with finesse baits. The ned rig was working best for us, and we found we had to let it sit still for a period of time before the fish would take it. We had to fish slow, as the fish didn't seem to want any moving baits we were throwing. Water temp was around 52 degrees in most areas, but in some back bays/pockets we found up to 56.

TechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureDocksI fished a college tournament out here April 24th, and the water temp was 52-55. The wind was blowing 20 mph out of the SW. We caught probably 20 largemouth that were under shallow docks. And would fish behind other college teams that were fishing the same docks as us. The fish were near the bases of the docks and would only eat a senko that was deadsticked. They were not aggressive but there were often more than one fish under the same dock we just had to pick it apart and fish it extremely slow. The color didn't matter but just letting it sit there did. Sometimes it would take 15-30 seconds for the fish to bite. We took 3rd with 12.50 lbs.
