Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonFallStructureDocksBass can be found pushing shad into the backs of major creeks all across Lake Wylie as the water temps continue to fall. Covering lots of shallow structure with a crank bait can be a very productive method of catching fish this time of year. Focus on Docks, Laydowns, and shallow rock when looking for these nomadic fish. Jerk baits such as the Berkley Stunna are also a great choice to locate bass hiding out in shallow structure.

Largemouth BassTechniqueMedium Diving Crankbaits (7'-12')SeasonFallStructurePointsThe trees may say it's fall but the bass are not feeding heavily in the typical fall fashion. Water is stained throughout most of the lake along with being several feet above full pool. Morning bite is slow, it picks up as the air temperature climbs. Main lake points throughout the lake or the current breaks on the upper end is a good place to start. Wylie has been stingy when it comes to a solid tournament sack, 3 fish sacks collected a check in last weekend's tournament. Top water bite has slowed down, maybe a handful of blow ups a day. The Rapala DT 6 in Demon Craw, tandom willow 1/2 oz Chartreuse Shad Bassman Spinnerbai, the black Zoom Trick Worm rigged on a shaky head jig, & Strom 360 GT swimbait has been the baits used to catch my fish the last few weeks.

Largemouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonFallStructurePointsFished 10/20 & 10/23 out of South Point. The cove across from the landing was FULL of bait all the way past the Shopton Rd bridge. Caught fish on the Megabass Vsion 110 and 110 Plus one both days on points and at the bridge, as well as a Rapala DT-6. White or any variation of white worked best. big fish came off a laydown with a weightless zoom fluke, pearl.

Largemouth BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonWinterStructureDocksNormally would not post twice in the same day, but I am leaving Tillery now and wanted to give a quick update. Air temps rose from below freezing to ~40 degrees before noon, with bright sunshine and clear water visibility to 4+ feet. Had some success on a Drop Shot using a 4.5" Straight Tail Roboworm in Morning Dawn. But really wanted to share that I also had success with a Wacky Rig using a 5" Yamasenko in Green Pumpkin Black. Really had not thrown that technique all Winter, so a pleasant surprise. Good luck to everyone on the lake today!

Spotted BassTechniqueMedium Diving Crankbaits (7'-12')SeasonWinterStructurePointsThis winter has been extremely tough on Lake Wylie, it's been a grind every outing. Covering water is the best option for finding the bass. Points with concrete sea walls and/or rip rap is where I have been catching the better quality of fish, still finding them on docks but it has not been the same quality of bass as you find during the summer months. Ten to twelve pound sacks will have you in the money on most tournament days right now. Cover water using the DT 10 on varied retrieves has been the best way I've found to trick a few Wylie bass this winter with the occasional jig bite mixed in. Tight lines!!
