Largemouth BassTechniqueInline SpinnersSeasonFallStructureLaydownsWhen I grew up fishing the Adirondacks, the onset of the fall bite could be measured by the effectiveness of inline spinners and spoons. It May be similar here. 59 degree air temp with lingering clouds from the previous night’s rain produced a breezy morning. As I write this, more rain is falling. I was very excited to get this nice, healthy bass.

Largemouth BassTechniqueCarolina RigsSeasonSummerStructureOpen Water/BasinThe Daiwa Emcast bait running function paid off today. I Carolina Rigged a Zoom U-Tail Tequila Sunrise swimming worm on The Lake Mary side. I dragged it along the bottom using a slow retrieve. I would reel it in for a yard and pause for a 3-5 count. On the pause, I engaged the bait running function. On one of these pauses, the line began to spool out and reel began to scream. I waited for a 5 count, cranked the bait running function to a close and achieved a solid hook set. I love these reels by Daiwa. Most brands have bait running functions in their lineups but not in the 2500-3000 range. I plan on outfitting all of my rods with these reels, matching spool size to each rod. I find them to be competent in the lure game as well as quite handy in live bait functions!

Northern PikeTechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureReedsI wasn’t expecting much action today. I got out later than usual, but took advantage of some lingering cloud cover from last night’s rain. I attacked the inlet of Lake Ladora. The water was flat. The spro popping frog elicited a big strike from a nice pike. But alas, I reacted to the breech and pulled the frog away. The Daiwa Tatula is the crown jewel of my power fishing lineup. It casts a mile weather driven by a Daiwa Samurai 2500 or Revros 3000. It’s a beauty to look at as well.

Largemouth BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureDam2 years ago, one of the Omnia Fisherman told me to rely on the Senko when the bass bite is stingy and to select colors based on water quality. This is a lake where the pike outnumber bass by 10:1 so the bass can be hard to coax. In 3 outings, I have landed 1 pike and 11 bass, including this dam dweller using wacky rigged senko and medium heavy diawa tatula rod. Thanks for all the help!

Northern PikeTechniqueSoft JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureReedsFluke bite is on in the shallows. Pike and bass are stacked up against the reeds, ambushing bait fish. Daiwa Samurai 6’6” Medium Moderate Daiwa Emcast Power Pro 30lb moss green

Northern PikeTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureReedsI had a toothy critter break me off cleanly on a wacky rigged senko as well as a fluke. Slow finesse is carrying the day. Normally I’m able to sense the bite and hook set quickly but these two fish clobbered my baits this evening.

Northern PikeTechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureReedsSlow retrieve. Patient hook sets. Aggressive hook sets will pull the bait out and put fish off generally. Northern Pike are coming in at 24"-29" range. Bass haven't left the nests and aren't feeding quite yet.
